A super large solar power plant will be completed in Abu Dhabi! China Jinko Energy Enterprises Participate in Development

2024-07-01

The Abu Dhabi Media Office stated that the project was developed in collaboration between Abu Dhabi National Energy Company and clean energy company Masdar, French EDF Renewable Energy, and Chinese Jinko Energy Company. The UAE Water and Electricity Company will purchase the electricity provided by the factory. It will provide electricity to 200000 households and is expected to reduce Abu Dhabi's carbon dioxide emissions by over 2.4 million tons annually, equivalent to reducing emissions from approximately 470000 vehicles.

This project is the world's largest single point solar power plant, providing zero emission electricity to the UAE grid and accelerating the achievement of the net zero goal after the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). It utilizes approximately 4 million solar panels with double-sided technology that can capture sunlight on both sides to achieve maximum production, increasing Abu Dhabi's solar power generation capacity to 3.2 gigawatts.

Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed, Deputy Chief of Abu Dhabi, stated that this groundbreaking project reflects the country's ongoing commitment to increasing the share of clean energy, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting global climate action efforts. The United Arab Emirates is at the forefront of developing and adopting innovative clean energy solutions globally, strengthening its energy security through the implementation of various flexible energy production, which helps reduce carbon emissions and also promotes economic development.

Data shows that the United Arab Emirates currently has the second highest per capita solar energy consumption in the world and is the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to announce its goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. It has been investing heavily in building renewable energy plants. The government has set clear targets for the development of renewable energy, with plans to invest up to 200 billion dirhams (approximately 54 billion US dollars) by 2030 to ensure energy demand is met while maintaining economic growth.
